The Cleveland International Film Festival brings to our town almost  300 quality new films, along with the actors, directors, producers, artists and creative minds who craft  them.  Chef Doug, a long time festival fan, is  excited to support this fantastic event. This year fire will co-sponsor  the amazing  “foodie” documentary, A Matter of Taste, Serving Up Paul Liebrandt, which screens  first on  Thursday, March 31st at 7 pm.  (and also April 1st at 12:15 pm) Following the Thursday night  screening join us at fire at 9 pm when we host the film’s director Sally Rowe,  for an intimate champagne/dessert reception.

A Matter of Taste,  chronicles the career of famed Chef Paul Liebrandt over a 10 year period. Liebrandt,  an  enormously  talented and driven artist,  at age 24, became  the youngest chef ever to receive the rating of three stars from the New York Times for his unforgettable hyper modern dishes such as eel violets and chocolate, and espuma of calf brains.

Rowe  examines Liebrandt’s creative process, as well as the hard work, and dedication it takes to be a true artist and to succeed in the cutthroat world of haute cuisine in New York City. Exploring the complicated relationships between food critics, chefs, and restaurant owners, the film delves into the life of an uncompromising, thought provoking, young chef ahead of his time.  Chef Doug commented , “The film tells the universal story of an artist trying to make it in the world. In this story  though, that artist, is a chef. We in the food world understand and appreciate everything Paul goes through on his journey.”
