We’ve been busy this week putting the finishing touches on a very special event, our Blueberry B.B.Q at Greenfield Berry Farm. If you’re a fan of this blog, you probably already know that the beauty of small farms and local food culture are topics close to our hearts. Perhaps even more so since last summer when chef Doug brought the entire staff out to the farm for a tour and picnic lunch to learn first hand about the foods that grace our kitchen. Making that connection with the farmers (and the land) and learning about their craft made us even more excited about our own. We’d like to share a bit of that beauty and excitement with you too.
On July 11, 2011 we’ll bring fire to the farm for an evening of fine casual dining set amongst the lovely fields and forests of the Greenfield Berry Farm. We’ll enjoy a country themed multi course dinner in the farm’s historic barn on linen draped tables illuminated by warm candle light. We’ll also have the opportunity to learn more about food and farming during a tour and discussion with our hosts farmer Dan Greenfield and chef Doug.
The Greenfield Berry Farm is part of an innovative program known as the Countryside Initiative. The project, is a unique public-private partnership which began in 1999, to rehabilitate several of the historic farms which operated in what is today, the Cuyahoga Valley National Park from the 19th century to the mid 20th. During that period nearly 700 small farms operated within the Cuyahoga Valley but by the mid 20th century most had vanished. The Countryside Initiative identified the remains of 85 old farms and selected them for possible rehabilitation. Today a dozen of these farms have been reestablished. Dan and Michelle Greenfield won the opportunity to farm the property in 2005. They offer pick your own blueberries and raspberries along with a wide variety of small fruits, vegetables and honey.
We’re looking forward to a fantastic evening and we hope you’ll join us. For reservations and information please call 216.921.3473 ext. 148. Click this link for menu and pricing details
